Sniper kills U.S. soldier in Tikrit
2010-09-01
SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq: A sniper killed a U.S. soldier in central Tikrit on Tuesday, raising the U.S. fatalities in August to four soldiers, a source from the Salah al-Din police department said.

“The incident occurred during the visit of the U.S. command in Salah el-Din to the police station in central Tikrit on the occasion of the end of U.S. combat troops’ mission in Iraq,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The death has brought to 4417 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, including 47 in 2010.

#3  Where do these snipers come from?

I know Bosnian jihadists like Juda the sniper have been recruited to fight US forces in Iraq and reports of Chechen snipers and fighters battling US lead forces also in Afghanistan.

#2  Combat is over now. The troops will be used for target practice by our enemies with no repercussions. We can now call our military, "blue helmets".

#1  American patrols have always been fired upon there. Unfortunately this type of incident will bcome commonplace as US troops move about Iraq. The enemy is still there and now can be assured that an American combat offensive against them will not take place. Tikrit should have been destroyed years ago.
