Six unidentified individuals were rescued by elements of the Mexican Army in Jimenez, Tamaulipas last Wednesday, according to Mexican press reports.
A detachment of the Mexican 8th Military Zone was patrolling an area in the Jimenez municipality when they were attacked by armed suspects. The action took place near Rancho La Mission where the patrol was fired on. The attack was repelled and in the aftermath, six individuals were freed after being held hostage.
Also seized in the operation were 20 rifles, 1,500 weapons cartridges, 95 magazines, two rocket launchers, two rockets and 23 vehicles.
Jimenez is located between San Fernando and Ciudad Victoria, about 200 kilometers due south of Reynosa. Jimenez has previously been the site of shootouts between drug gangs before, one of which was last May 16th.
