Outlaw held after gunfight with police
2010-08-14
[Bangla Daily Star] Police arrested an alleged outlaw after half an hour of gunfight with his gang at Santhia upazila of the district yesterday.

A rifle, a shutter gun, seven rounds of bullets, 11 powerful bombs, and three machetes were recovered from the spot.

The arrestee, Md Rashed Pramanik, 30, is son of Jitu Pramanik of Bilshalangi village under the upazila. Rashed is a diehard operative and a faction leader of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Jana Judhha), police said.

Rashed underwent treatment at Pabna General Hospital as he was hit by a bullet during the gunfight.

Sub-Inspector Hassan Jahid of Ataikula police station said they raided Alodiar, a remote village of Santhia upazila, when the gang was holding a secret meeting about money they had looted from the village.

The outlaws opened fire on police leading to a 30-minute gunfight as the security force reached the spot.

Other members of the gang managed to flee abandoning the arms and ammunition they were carrying.
