Hamas TV forced to halt broadcasts to Europe
2010-06-15
Ay Pee. Summary: France-based satellite provider Eutelsat may no longer broadcast al-Aqsa TV, the Hamas channel, because it was ruled too hateful. The satellite broadcasts to Europe, North Africa, and part of the Gulf. A second satellite broadcasts Al-Aqsa to the Middle East, and the station will still be available on the internet. Nonetheless, Al-Aqsa will lose most of its viewers and resultant fund-raising, according to the channel's head. This follows a ruling six years ago in France and the U.S. blocking al-Manar, the Hizb'allah channel.

Hamas is very active on the media front to sell its cause, with another television station in Lebanon, web sites, a radio station, a magazine and two newspapers, and has produced a film and various animated features.
