| 700 'terrorists' belonging to South Punjab arrested: Malik |

| Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik has said that the policy against the banned religious organisations has been forwarded to the Punjab government and the security forces have held as many as 700 terrorists belonging to southern Punjab, a private TV channel reported on Friday. Talking to journalists outside the Parliament House in Islamabad, he said that the law enforcement agencies throughout the country have been told to crack down on the banned militant groups and the government was ready to combat with the terrorists. He said that the banned groups would not be allowed to stage protests and the crackdown applies to all major cities. To a question, the minister said the Rangers had been asked to take action against the groups which were creating law and order situation in Karachi. He said that two criminal groups working in Lyari were seeking political patronage. |
