Hamas condemns sentencing of affiliates in West Bank court |
2010-03-23 |
[Ma'an] Hamas members of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Ramallah condemned on Monday a military court sentence handed down to four of its affiliates detained in a Palestinian Authority intelligence services prison. According to the Hamas lawmakers, the Palestinian Supreme Court had called for the release of the four detained affiliates, identified as Muhammad Judeh Abu Shalbak, Ahmad Sh'aban Abu Kuwek, Khalid Jamil As-Seraj and Saif Al-Qadi. "The continued security services operations and the issuance of sentences in military courts confirms that the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah does not want to reach a solution and end internal division," a statement issued by the Hamas deputies said. The statement described the sentences as "unfair, based on false pretenses and trumped-up charges." The arrests are a policy of "resistance suppression" in the West Bank and an encroachment on freedom, they wrote. The Hamas ministers added that the PA should support resistance at this stage, and "not suppress it." |
