Three men were arrested yesterday for allegedly staging last week's fatal attack on a group of policemen, including Sompien Eksomya, superintendent of Bannang Sata police station in Yala. Sompien, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of police general, and one of his subordinates died from injuries sustained in the attack. Two other policemen survived. The suspects were identified as Abdulloh Aleemama, 23, Lukman Aleemame, 19, and Hakam Puta, 18. Throughout his decades long career, Sompien worked very hard to improve the safety of people living within areas under his command, winning the hearts and minds of the locals. He was based in the deep South for four decades. |
