Little Known Federal Law Offers Green Cards for Green Cash
2010-02-19
45-story condo tower proposed for Seattle: The $225 million project would be built with money from foreign investors who, under an obscure federal program, can parlay investment in certain neighborhoods into permanent U.S. residency, or "green cards." An application by the city and the Sky project's developer, Twin Development, to include downtown Federal Way in the program was approved by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services last fall.

Without that designation and the inducement of green cards, the proposed condo tower wouldn't have penciled out, said Twin's co-manager. The Federal program is known as EB-5. It grants would-be immigrants residency if they invest at least $500,000 in a project that creates at least 10 jobs in a designated "regional center" targeted for economic growth.

#6  Let's hope that thus far isn't the same as in the end, abu do you love. Otherwise permanent steps will have to be taken, beyond whacking the moles as they think of sticking their heads out of their holes.

#5  the Muslim enclaves seem to be resisting the absorption of American ideals so far TW. i think the whole PC and multicultural thingy has made that doable in a way that was impossible 50 years ago

#4  That'd only be a short-term situation, NoMoreBS. People who emigrate here tend to absorb American ideals pretty quickly, which wipes out the desired advantage of enclaves.

#3  Watch the Chinese use this for a combination immigration bonanza and colonization strategy in key locations nationwide. Then the businesses created will have the job creation, and Chinese workers in the US will get them. Government subsidized colonies for our new fiscal overlords. Sweet!

#2  Well if they're not going to close the borders to illegals who bring with them low skill job sets and additions to the consumption of public services, you might as well get some who'll actually pay their way.

#1  A bribe by any other name would smell as sweet.
