Non-Metal IEDs with 2 liquids mixing when stepped on - Michael Yon
2010-02-06
Michael Yon's Facebook page has this update:

Michael Yon: Am told the enemy has started using IEDs that use no metal. As explained to me by an excellent source, when you step on the bomb, it causes two liquids to mix which then explode.

#3  Land mines are one of the cheapest of weapons, and though they are rarely significant as anti-personnel devices, they do have the advantage of slowing down enemy movements very effectively, like snipers.

One technique, used in Vietnam, cost just a few dollars to make dozens of mines, with stuff on hand. Not terribly reliable, but not bad, and a mine field could be laid by one man in a few minutes.

#2  Interesting. Abdulmutallab used a similar device. Where was this device first encountered, and which groups are using it? How has it spread? This kind of shared m.o. is a strong indicator of links.
