[Bangla Daily Star] Police yesterday arrested six militants of the banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) during a raid at a JMB leader's house under Raninagar upazila in Naogaon.Among the arrestees, Masud Rana, 40, son of Khabir Sheikh, a JMB area commander and close associate of the executed JMB leader Siddikul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, hails from Bashbaria village of the upazila.
Others are Rajibul Islam Rocket, 33, Manjur Rahman, 26, of Tegachhi Senpara, Belal Hossain, 33, Saiduzzaman Ratan, 36, and Mirza Mia, 33, of Jhikra village in Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi.
Acting on a tip off, a police team led by Abbas Ali, officer-in-charge of Raninagar Police Station, raided the house of Khabir Sheikh around 2:00pm and arrested them under Section 54 though another six to seven persons managed to flee.
The police went to Khabir's house on information that a few JMB men sat in a meeting there, said Ahmaruzzaman, additional superintendent of police in Naogaon.
According to locals, the arrestees had roles in the Purbo Banglar Communist Party activities and were working for JMB.
Khabir Sheikh is an accused in the JMB victim Idris Ali Khejur murder case.
