| Oprah Show will have Sarah Palin Nov 16 | |

In a world exclusive, Oprah Winfrey will interview former Alaska governor Sarah Palin for an episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to air Monday, Nov. 16, 2009. Winfrey and Palin will meet for the very first time on the episode, which will mark Palin's first interview to discuss her upcoming book, "Going Rogue: An American Life" and her first-ever appearance on the "Oprah" show.

But there are issues where 'common sense' alone doesn't cut it ... a good historical perspective, knowledge about key elements of economics, international relations and other topics is needed to apply 'common sense' to. And too often for my tastes what Palin has to fall back on is an emotional appeal to shared valued. I happen to agree with most of those values, but it isn't an adequate basis for high national office. OTOH someone like Liz Cheney has the ethics, principles, family values - and she's well read, articulate, focused and shows signs of significant executive capability. We need them both, and half a dozen more. |

| #17 I don't think being an intellectual is an asset in a politician. They need to be able to separate the wheat from the self-serving chaff I'm sure they hear most of the time, and do more or less the right thing. From what I've heard about Sarah Palin, she was better than most politicians at doing this. |

| #14 I'm with EU6305. Oprah's audience is people who think the color of their curtains is life-changing. Sarah Palin is a serious intellectual in that company. |

| #12 ebbang I disagree. Sarah has many family-first themes to give and many 'we struggled but triumphed' stories (and with a bonus that the stories are true). If she hits those notes, she will rock the Oprah world audience. |

| #7 I plan on watching the show. There are some very interesting dynamics going on there and noone can predict the outcome with any degree of certainity. I just hope that I don't fall into Oprah's clutches and become one of her devoted fans. Pray for me. |

| #6 It's potentially a win-win. Oprah is struggling to bring her ratings back up. She lost a number of conservatives during her love affair with Obama last year. She's hoping to get some of them back by playing nicey-nice with the governor. For Sarah Palin, she has a book to sell and presumeably future political ambitions. She needs this exposure to white touchy-feelie women to broaden her support. I wish them both well in their personal ambitions for this interview. |

| #5 Could explain the Oprah vs Obama headlines on one of the rags recently. Oprah has a very large audience of followers. Gaining access to them is a gamble but has a large payout if it works well. |
