That halal meatpacker raid? Just immigration irregularities, really | ||
2009-10-21 | ||
Federal agents investigating possible immigration irregularities conducted raids at a Grundy County meatpacking business and several Chicago locations over the weekend, sources familiar with the probe said Monday. The FBI's Chicago office confirmed agents took part in the execution of a search warrant Sunday at a First World Management Services plant in Kinsman, northwest of Dwight. FBI spokesman Ross Rice said no arrests were made there. But a source said the owner of the plant, which processes lamb and goat, was taken into custody at his home in Chicago. Documents and records were taken from the plant and from a Chicago travel agency on West Devon Avenue, also owned by the same person, the source said. The FBI said the raid at the plant was related to an ongoing federal criminal investigation but declined to elaborate further. The U.S. attorney's office in Chicago declined to comment.
Glenda Johnson saw so many police and plain clothed federal agents on her block that she thought someone had been shot. âThe police was so crowded, you couldnât even walk past. They was in trucks, they was in cars, they was in regular cars. It looked like someone had killed someone,â said Johnson. That swarm of badges consisted of the FBI, Chicago Police and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. In their sights were two buildings on the 6300 block of North Artesian. People who live in a six flat there say the feds were very interested in its basement, specifically, two storage lockers. A spokesperson for the FBI confirms a search warrant was executed at the building as part of an ongoing investigation. Glenda Johnson says an FBI agent made the search sound extremely urgent. âThey was looking for someone who lives in this building. So I was like âwhatâs the cause?â They said âwe donât want to say yet, but itâs a life and death situation.â I was like âwow,ââ said Johnson.

#5 A source in federal law enforcement told Fox Chicago that the case is similar to one that unfolded in New York. Zazi had a few cohorts under surveillance and the bomb ingredients never found. The travel agency's records may show who has travelled to Pak training camps lately. The Boston arrest just announced by the DoJ also alleges co-conspirators. From an AP story: A 27-year-old Massachusetts man has been charged with conspiring with others to support and plan violent jihad in and outside the United States, including terror plots to attack U.S. shopping malls and U.S. military in Iraq. Federal officials in Boston say Tarek Mehanna of Sudbury worked with others from 2001 to May of 2008 to provide support and resources in a conspiracy to "kill, kidnap, main or injure" people in foreign countries and to kill prominent U.S. politicians. Mehanna was charged in a complaint with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, according to the Department of Justice. The complaint further alleges that the co-conspirators attempted to radicalize others and inspire each other by, among other things, watching and distributing jihadi videos. The charges accuse the suspects of talking about their desire to participate in Islamist holy war and of their desire to die on the battlefield. |

#3 The FBI can take time from it's busy schedule combating the all pervasive Mossad to deal with Jihad? |

#2 That swarm of badges consisted of the FBI, Chicago Police and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Yes, just your typical illegal alien raid keeping down the poor immigrants who are willing to do the bombings the locals are not. |

#1 It's been my experience that you know it is a big story when the FBI keeps a lid on the reporting. |
