[Maghrebia] In a statement published Tuesday (August 18th) on a radical Islamist website, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for the August 8th suicide bomb attack near the French embassy in Nouakchott, Le Véridique reported. Obeida Abu Moussa al-Basri, a native of Nouakchott's al-Basra district, detonated his suicide belt after security barricades prevented him from accessing the embassy compound, the al-Qaeda statement claimed. Al-Basri was the only person killed in Mauritania's first-ever suicide bombing. |
