2009-07-17 |
[Iran Press TV Latest] The French Navy, in cooperation with the Indian Navy, has ensured the release of 14 Indian sailors whose ship had been hijacked by Somali pirates. The Indian vessel, the MV Nafeya, was hijacked by pirates off Boosasso near Somalia on July 10, after dropping off its cargo at a Somali harbor. The MV Nafeya was proceeding towards Dubai when Somali pirates armed with RPGs and AK47s raided the vessel, Indian Navy officers said in New Delhi on Thursday. After the pirates were tailed by warships, they sailed the Indian vessel close to the coast of Somalia and released it at 0300 GMT on July 15 and managed to flee in their skiffs, the officials said. The kidnapped crewmembers were reportedly unharmed. |
