Lion's Den: A rapid and harsh turn against Israel | ||||

The much-anticipated meeting between Barack Obama and Binyamin Netanyahu on May 18 went off smoothly, if a bit tensely, as predicted. Everyone was on best behavior and the event excited so little attention that The New York Times reported it on page 12. As expected, however, the gloves came off immediately thereafter, with a series of tough American demands, especially Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's insistence on May 27 that the Netanyahu government end residential building in the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem.

#10 Frank G: My first comment was intended as a condemnation of Bammo and what many people refer to as the "peace process" in the Middle East. My second comment was joke about the 2 pooplisted comments. This is my 1,000th comment on Rantburg. It should be clear enough by now what my Weltanschauung is. |

#9 Iblis... as an American Catholic, loving liberty and freedom, and not liking 'sploding meatbombs in public places, says FU. I support Israel, and the consolidation around Jerusalem to prevent another east/west Berlin. Arabs in Israel, if offered the option to relocate to a "Palestine" on either Gaza or the West Bank, would overwhelmingly vote with the silence of their curly-toed nikes. That says more than anything else about "Arab Solidarity" and uniform Paleo thought. My apologies if I misunderstood your comment intent |

#5 Realistically, does Israel really need American cash to survive? Not prosper and expand, but to survive? I'm not saying, just asking. Or would the cutting off of US cash just cause a flood of Arab chash into the Palestinian coffers. |

#4 If Obambi keeps this sh$$ up, he might find himself getting whacked by the Mossad. Israel has ways of protecting itself from outside influence, even from the President of the United States. Carter didn't have much luck with Israel, either - not during his term of office, and not since. Today, he might as well be a muslim. |

#3 We've never been more than a holocaust away from peace in the ME. Bammo is just the guy to make it happen. |

#1 PA, Egypt, Soodis have all said, essentially, "that's a good start" of course they will want much, much more before they give even the slightest bit in return |
