2008-11-16 |
Afghan and coalition forces captured an insurgent leader in eastern Afghanistan, while 10 Taliban were killed in a separate clash, the US military said on Saturday. US forces said the captured man was a 'key insurgent leader' responsible for the deaths of Afghan troops, bomb attacks on coalition forces and the kidnapping of aid workers. Coalition forces also killed 10 Taliban in a strike against a bomb-making cell in the eastern Paktia province on Friday, the US military said in a separate statement. Separately, a civilian was accidentally killed by a grenade during a clash with insurgents in Zabul province, a US military statement said. Meanwhile, police thwarted a suicide attack in the eastern city of Khost, officials said. |
