2 news channels blacked out in Jammu, 2 newspapers shut, as protests rage on
2008-08-03
JAMMU: As the violence over the Amarnath land controversy rages, Jammu administration on Sunday blacked out two local TV news channels and sealed offices of two Hindi dailies.

The move sparked instantaneous protest as a large number of people defied the curfew and staged a demonstration here prompting police to resort to cane-charge and fire teargas shells to scatter them.

A senior Aaj Tak correspondent and an NDTV cameraman were injured in the police action which took place outside the offices of the two channels — Takel and JK , journalists said.

#1  As I commented on the other Jammu article, 1 Kanal is .125 acres, an old British Unit used in Pakistan-From my old surveying text book. The plot in question is 800 Kanals, or 100 acres. This should illustrate the level of disregard that the Hindu population has suffered in their own country.
