#22  They completely missed "Spanish West Florida, and "Louisianna" cuts into their teritory quite a bit.
They also missed Texas as an independent Nation" (Which it was)
Chalk the whole Gaffe as "Furriners that can't read maps", and let it go.

#21  IIRC, wasn't that part of SoCal = MexiCali + Mexi BAJA Ports under scrutiny for development into free trade zones???

OTOH, CUBA etal. > as per TOPIX/OTHER > even Great Britain = Euro is feeling the local anti-Status Quo heat in the Caribbean e.g. JAMAICA, HAITI???

#20  Don't know too many Mexicans but the ones I did either drank beer or tequila, or the real stuff, Mescal. They thought vodka drinkers were Nancy Boys.

#18  OS try Polish vodka -- made from spuds and triple distilled. No hangover, no DTs about breakaways states joining NATO.

#17  "As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market, and for that we apologize."

Translation: "We just remembered that a lot more of our revenue comes from the people we've just pissed off than from the people with whom we were ingratiating ourselves."

#16  "Funny - it did so well with our test audience in Manhattan..."

#15  Stoli. The russian stuff and get the reserved, not the common paint thinner they send to the US.

#14  "the really stoopid part is that they were aiming for the reconquista sentiment in Mexico, but ran the ads in English."

Then there was the cultural irony of this being vodka ad and not, say, a tequila one. Were they saying,"The mexican people will take over by drinking, er, vodka?"

Absolut idiots

#13  Re #12: Well spoken General Ripper! BTW and for what its worth: I teach in a Tucson school where English is most decidedly the second language...the reconquista does continue...

#12  You're right there Barb. They were probably too busy stuffing their golden parachutes.

#10  I agree with regular joe, it's no better than well vodka and will give you a wicked hangover that rivals Popov.

#9  And Anonymoose, on that map the body of water west of Florida would be renamed the Gulf of the USA?

#7  Ya' mean like all those "layers of editors and fact-checkers" the MSM have, white?

Considering the multiple screw-ups that appear in the MSM every day, obviously very easily....

#6  It looks to me like a sour grapes ad campaign by a soon to be mergered-out-of-a-job marketing director. But how do you get it past all those layers of oversight?
Posted by: whitecollar redneck   2008-04-06 09:29

#5  I sent 'em a map of the Swedish Empire with the quip, "In an absolute world ... your sorry asses would still have Finland."

#4  From IMAO:
MEXICAN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT: Yay! I've made it to America!
MEXICAN OFFICIAL: I'm afraid not. We took over most of the west coast. You're still like a thousand miles from the American border.
MEXICAN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT: Crap. Do you have any work I can do?
MEXICAN OFFICIAL: Of course not. This is Mexico.

#3  the really stoopid part is that they were aiming for the reconquista sentiment in Mexico, but ran the ads in English. The company's being bought this week. First thing the new owner should do is fire the f*ckwit geniuses that thought this up. Maintain the boycott so this becomes "business lesson 101"

#2  I blasted those bastards in an e-mail to their marketing manager. I received a return receipt that my message was deleted without being read. Doesn't matter. Hell will freeze over and they'll be televising NHL playoff games from there before I buy another bottle of their rotgut. Screw them and the burro they rode in on.
