The Afghan defence ministry says dozens of Taliban insurgents were killed or wounded during a joint NATO-Afghan army operation in the southern province of Uruzgan on Saturday. The defence ministry did not give an exact death toll but unconfirmed reports say more than 40 insurgents were killed. There were no injuries or deaths among NATO or Afghan forces during the clash near the town of Deh Rawod. The Afghan authorities say one of the dead is a well-known local commander. A significant amount of heavy weaponry, including rocket launchers and machine guns, was also seized during the operation. |
