Al-Qaeda claims responsibility for Algeria suicide attack
2008-01-31
Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for the suicide attack which targeted a police station in Thenia, eastern Algeria killing three people and wounding many others on Tuesday.

According to a statement on a website routinely used by Al-Qaeda, the suicide bomber is called Hamza Abu Abderrahmane. “On January 29 2008 at 6:30 a.m, he drove a vehicle laden with at least 650 kilograms of explosives,” said the statement. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (ex-GSPC) was behind pervious suicide attacks in Algeria starting from April 11 when the Government Palace and a police station in Algiers were rocked by two car bombs leaving 33 dead and wounding more than 200.
