2008-01-13
Security forces on Saturday arrested 41 suspects during a search operation in different areas of Swat while military helicopters once again pounded areas in Kabal after a break of nearly one month. Troops imposed curfew in Kooza Bandai and adjacent areas during the night. The operation was launched early morning and troops detained 41 people for their alleged links to militants. In Manja and Totano Bandai areas of Kabal, helicopter gunships resumed targeting Taliban positions after a pause of nearly one month.

The local population has once again started to migrate from their areas following the air assault, during which some civilian areas also came under fire. Locals said several houses had been partially damaged in the fresh shelling, however, there were no reports of casualties among the Taliban or civilians.

Civilian gunned down: The security forces have gunned down a civilian for violating the curfew imposed in Kabal area, locals said. They said the slain was crossing a road when the troops spotted him and opened fire at him.

In the same area, unidentified assailants fired seven rockets at a police station and some security posts triggering an exchange of fire that lasted more than an hour. Officials said that the rocket attack damaged a portion of a compound of the Kabal Police Station and one of its rooms, but no one was killed or injured.
