| Afghan cops kill 3 Talibs in Ghazni, defuse burka boomette in Jalalabad |

| Three Taliban militants, including a local commander, were killed while a waist-coat filled with explosives was recovered from a woman in Afghanistan, police said on Monday. The two suspected militants and their commander were shot dead in the southern province of Ghazni, provincial police chief Khan Mohammad told KUNA. He said the commander had been identified as Mullah Alam. The Taliban did not confirm the killing of their commander in clash with the police. A day earlier, the militants said they had shot dead all the seven people, who were kidnapped about a week back in the same province. Meanwhile, police said they had recovered explosives from a woman in the eastern province of Nangarhar. The elderly Afghan woman, whose name was not disclosed, was carrying a waist-coat filled with explosives, said police officials. She had wrapped herself in a shuttle-cock burqa (veil), usually used by Pashtun women to cover their faces and body. The arrest was made in the city of Jalalabad, bordering the neighbouring Pakistan. In recent months, suicide attacks have been mounted in the settled areas of Pakistan as well. |
