| Beirut boom kills senior Lebanon army officer |

| Lebanon's national news agency says a large explosion rocked a Christian suburb east of Beirut early Wednesday morning, killing four people, including a senior army officer, and injuring dozens. The agency says Major General Francois Hajj, head of military operations in the army command, was killed in the explosion along with his bodyguard. The army has no immediate comment. |
