| Troops overrun Taliban town |

| Afghan troops fought their way into the centre of southern Taliban stronghold Musa Qala on Monday but encountered only light resistance as the rebels melted away, officials and the militants said. ... "Our troops are in the centre of the town but the Taliban might be around," Afghan defence ministry spokesman General Mohammad Zahir Azimi said. Troops were clearing the area, his ministry said, adding that Taliban resistance had "crashed." A spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) also said Afghan troops had entered Musa Qala, which was overrun by hundreds of rebels in early February. "They are in the centre of the town," Major Charles Anthony said. |

| #10 There were 2000 of them. Really. They just converted to civilians. Unfortunately, the conversion is not permanent. |

| #9 Were they allowed to 'escape' (again) by a deal with Karzai? Like it or not, allowing another 'tribe' to escape has long been a standard Afghani practice. It may take a long time to break them of that, if ever. |

| #8 At a guess? They went home to Pakistan for the winter. They're back next spring, time to do it all over again. Rinse, repeat, until the rest of NATO pulls out & undercuts the manpower reserves allowing any kind of concentration of the Anglo cutting-edge in the south and east. |

| #1 Were they allowed to 'escape' (again) by a deal with Karzai? or, Were they never there in quantity to begin with? or, Are they still there, but stashed their weapons and now are just ordinary tribesmen again? |
