2007-11-23 |
Unknown militants gunned down Secretary of the Iraqi Interior Ministry Captain Hassan Eidan Al-Maliki northeast Baghdad Wednesday evening. The gunmen on three cars ambushed the convoy of the senior official in Al-Gharir district, Al-Shaab city, northeast of the capital city, this evening, a police source said under condition of anonymity. Two of Captain Al-Maliki's companions were seriously injured in the attack and were hurried to Ibn Al-Nafis Hosiptal, the source added. |

#1 OK, according to the CIA, the Minister of the Interior is one Jawad al-BULANI. The Prime Minister is the only al-Maliki in the cabinet. Presumably this captain al-Maliki is some sort of assistant to the Minister of the Interior? I don't see any other hits for an Eidan al-Maliki or a Hassan al-Maliki except for the Prime Minister, who's listed as "Nouri Kamil Mohammad Hassan al-Maliki" whenever somebody's feeling verbose. Of course, that doesn't mean anything, as the "Captain Jamal Hussein" incident should have illustrated to anyone paying attention. I'd guess that the deceased is some sort of distant kinsman to *the* al-Maliki with a nepotistic post in the Interior Ministry. |
