Yemeni Clerics Warn: Christianity in Yemen Spreading

Yemeni clerics are warning that Christianity is spreading in the country and called on President 'Ali 'Abdallah 'Salih to stop this phenomenon, the Yemeni weekly Al-Ghad reported, according to UPI.

One hundred Muslim clerics convened in the capital, Sana'a, over the weekend. They claimed that approximately 2,000 Yemeni citizens from the old city of Sana'a have recently converted to Christianity as a result of the cooperation of the local citizens with foreigners in executing terror attacks. The clerics also warned of the spread of dangerous phenomena of deviations and sinful activities. They called on 'Salih to carry out his religious and moral responsibilities to stop these trends, which are caused by the spread of poverty and unemployment, the report added.

You are EXACTLY right, mojo. I've often said that the Koran isn't even good literature, let alone good theology. Disjointed and unrelated ramblings, convoluted stories, and internal inconsistencies permeate the whole thing.

Whether you agree with Judaism/Christianity or not, one has to admit that the Bible is a literary masterpiece. Read Ruth. Read the Psalms. Read Proverbs. Read the words of Christ in any of the gospels. The romans even declared "Never did any man speak like this man".

#7  A very dangerous phenomenon indeed. Christian converts won't fight for allan. They won't give their money to the mosque so the muslim clerics might have to do some honest work for a living. They will love their neighbors thereby tempting others to convert. Can't have that.

#6  That Moslem clerics in Yemen and practically everywhere else have their shorts in a bunch about apostates and conversions to Christianity may be an indication of how fragile Islam actually is. How many "believers" are slipping quietly away, in conversion to Christianity, or to just a superficial show of sufficient belief to keep the peace and quiet?

We can't really know for sure, since the death penalty for apostacy keeps converts and the less-than devout relatively silent. That threats like this must be wielded constantly to keep Moslems in line is pretty telling, though.

#4  Does anyone else get the feeling that Islam's killing of apostates amounts to nothing less than human sacrifice? I'm rapidly heading towards that particular conclusion myself.

A bit OT :! my recalling of this is pretty limited, I read it in a french mag's short news, but right/shortly after 9/11, there was one kuwaiti who had converted to Christianity in response to the attacks, and had been jailed in result. Does anybody know about this, and what happened to this fellow? What is kuwait's policy regarding "apostate"?
