| #11 Remember, dear Mr. Churchill was British, so Liberal and Conservative had different meanings to him. If I understand correctly, Brit Liberal = Amer. libertarian Brit Conservative wants rule by king and gentry/aristocracy, not something to make an American conservative at all comfortable. Not to say that the sentiment doesn't transfer to this country the way we understand it. |

| #8 Great diatribe by the lady. It goes beyond me how anyone could think that Ahmadinejad would not turn his visit to Columbia into a propaganda victory back in Iran. Bush was an idiot to not have issued an executive order prohibiting it. Like Churchill said, if you have any heart you'll be a liberal when you are young but if you have any brains you'll be a conservative when you grow up. "If by the age of 20 you are not a liberal, you have no heart. And if by the age of 40 you are not a conservative, you have no brain." That's the way I've always heard it. However, it is evidently a false attribution to Churchill: "Conservative by the time you're 35" "If you're not a liberal when you're 25, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by the time you're 35, you have no brain." There is no record of anyone hearing Churchill say this. Paul Addison of Edinburgh University makes this comment: "Surely Churchill can't have used the words attributed to him. He'd been a Conservative at 15 and a Liberal at 35! And would he have talked so disrespectfully of Clemmie, who is generally thought to have been a lifelong Liberal?" |

| #6 Natural Law, I have tried delivering some invective toward my Leftist Student. It goes in one ear and out the other. Sigh. All you can do is hope they grow up. Like Churchill said, if you have any heart you'll be a liberal when you are young but if you have any brains you'll be a conservative when you grow up. Or something like that. The problem is too many either don't have any brains or else they never grow up. |
