Multi-National Division-Baghdad troops captured 14 Al Qaeda in Iraq suspects in the Rashid District of southern Baghdad Sept. 26.Soldiers of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, currently attached to Task Force Dragon of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, detained the alleged members of Al Qaeda in Iraq after receiving multiple reports of 60 armed terrorists in the Doura region.
The Soldiers cordoned off an objective area and detained military-age males for screening at the nearby Coalition Outpost Gator. The 14 suspected criminals arrested were identified for longer term detention as alleged Al Qaeda fighters.
“This hugely successful operation is one more example of significant pressure the Dragon Brigade is putting on Al Qaeda in Iraq,” said Col. Ricky D. Gibbs, commander of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. “We will continue to go after extremists wherever they operate in the Rashid District.”
