It also rejected the pleas seeking leniency for Zamrooda for her being a political activist. Earlier, making a last-ditch effort after being convicted, a visibly depressed Zamrooda pleaded for leniency in the sentence. She told the judge that she had suffered a lot and committed no crime. “I have suffered in jail for the last four years and eight months and my health has also deteriorated,” she said. Judge Ravinder Kaur said that a five-year imprisonment was the least punishment under the Prevention of Terrorist (activities) Act. |
