PakTel orders better documentation of SIM cards and mobile phones |

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday directed the cellular phone companies to ensure proper documentation and verification of the antecedents of their respective customers. The PTA issued the direction during a meeting chaired by PTA Chairman Shahzada Alam Malik and attended by the representatives of the cellular mobile operators here Friday. According to a press release, Malik said it had been witnessed that proper procedure is not being adopted with regard to acquiring the particulars of the customer intending to have a mobile connection. He said that a large number of SIM cards were being used with fictitious documentation. He said that the Authority had received a number of complaints in this regard. The PTA chairman directed the representatives of the mobile phone companies to ensure that a copy of computerised National Identification Card (CNIC) is demanded from the customer at the time of issuance of SIM besides electronically maintaining the particulars of every subscriber as given in the customer agreement from. Malik said that this policy would be implemented immediately and strict action would be taken against those franchises that would be found in violation. PTA teams would be visiting various franchises of all the cellular mobile operators across the country to check whether proper procedure was being adopted while issuing the respective mobile connections. |
