POLICE are treating the death of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer as as suspicious and cricket officials say they believe he may have been murdered. Jamaican police announced today investigations had provided "sufficient information" to continue probing the coach's death.

Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman Pervez Mir said: "The police suspect that Woolmer may have been murdered."
Let's see: died all alone in a hotel room in a foreign country after a humiliating defeat to a small country on the cricket pitch. Nothing suspicious about that.
Woolmer, 58, was found unconscious in his hotel room in Jamaica on Sunday morning and was pronounced dead after being transferred to hospital. His death came a day after Pakistan suffered a shock World Cup defeat to Ireland on Saturday, ending its chances of reaching the next round and sparking widespread anger among cricket fans Pakistan.
Pakistan losing to Ireland at the cricket world cup is like the USA losing to Trinidad in the Olympic ice hockey competition, but with a lot more muzzie national pride involved.

Don't forget that El Salvador and Honduras actually went to war in '69 over a soccer game (though the game's result was really just the spark to some other causes). And for all the futility of going to war over a soccer match, they did it with style: Honduras' F4U Corsairs versus El Salvador's P-51 Mustangs, with C-47's on both sides being used as bombers.

#3  Does anyone remember the 1994 FIFA World Cup?

On July 2, 1994, Escobar was shot outside "El Indio" bar, located in a Medellín suburb. According to Escobar's girlfriend, the killer shouted "¡Gooooooooooooool!" (mimicking South American sporting commentators for their calls after a goal is scored) for each of the 12 bullets fired.

#1  Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer, found dead a day after PakistanÂ’s shock defeat at the hands of Ireland, was murdered, police have confirmed. Although the Pakistan Cricket Board has been claiming that the autopsy conducted on Woolmer was inconclusive, sources, according to Times Now, have confirmed that investigators have indeed said the coach was murdered.

In fact, the Jamaican Police is said to be already ascertaining the whereabouts of some of the Pakistan players at the time the murder could have taken place. Sources confirmed to Times Now that further questioning of Pakistan players is on the cards as well.

The confirmation comes soon after allegations by former Pakistan pacer Sarfaraz Nawaz that Woolmer was murdered by the betting syndicate. The outspoken Nawaz has said that almost everybody in control of the game is involved in betting and Woolmer was perhaps about to reveal all in a book.
