Italy: Bipartisan Rally To Be Staged In Rome Supporting Tehran Students

Rome, 20 Dec. (AKI) - Italy's Union of Young Jews has organized a rally in support of Iranian students who staged a protest against president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last week to be attended Thursday by student activists and politicians across the political spectrum. The sit-in will take place in front of the Iranian embassy in Rome. Student and youth groups across the political spectrum, including the left-wing Sinistra Giovanile, as well as the conservative Giovani di Forza Italia and Alternativa Studentesca will participate along with senior politicians.

Among those who have announced they will take part are progressive agriculture undersecretary Stefano Boco and the parliamentary group of Forza Italia, the party of former conservative premier Silvio Berlusconi.

The sit-in, Alternativa Studentesca participants said in a statement, was called "to support the courageous protest of Iranian students against the regime of Ahmadinejad."

Boco also said he wasa attending "to show political and human support to those who protested against the ominous announcements of Ahmadinejad."
