Jihadis kill two at municipal office in southern Thailand |
2006-12-14 |
Six suspected Muslim insurgents stormed into a local government office Thursday and opened fire, killing two people and injuring one, police said. The gunmen arrived on motorcycles, entered the Krong Pinang municipal office in Yala province and started firing, said police Lt. Wannawut Saengsenya. A member of the local administrative council was killed, along with an employee who managed the office storeroom. Both men were Buddhists, who are among the targets of insurgent violence that has gripped Thailand's three southernmost Muslim-majority provinces — Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat — since January 2004. More than 1,900 people have been killed. |
