Wounded Taliban treated in Pakistan
2006-11-19
Yup, surprise meter reads '0'.
PAKISTAN is allowing Taliban fighters wounded in battles with British and other Nato forces in Afghanistan to be treated at safe houses.

The Sunday Times found Taliban commanders and their fighters recuperating in the city of Quetta last week and moving freely around parts of the city.

In a white-walled compound in the northern suburb of Pashtunabad, more than 30 Taliban were recovering from the bloodiest fighting in Afghanistan since their regime was ousted five years ago.

Dressed in neatly pressed robes with the black turbans and kohl-rimmed eyes typical of the Taliban, they lounged on cushions, sipping green tea and sucking at boiled sweets while laughing at Nato reports that they have sustained heavy casualties.

Among the most defiant was a young commander who had been shot in the calf last month while fighting British troops in Gereshk, a town in the Afghan province of Helmand, and who had returned to Quetta to be treated. “Fighting the British is as easy as eating a loaf of bread from my hand,” he said in a soft voice. “Fighting the British is much easier than the Americans. They have no faith.”

#11  ARCLIGHT Quetta, the Pakistan side of the Durand line, and downtown Peshawar, where Osama lives.

Fuck that. ARCLIGHT Islamabad.

#10  While it might not be a religious war on our side, it damned well is on the other side. We need to remember that.

Remember that? Hell, our politicians have yet to even grasp the concept. While it may be a religious war for the Muslims, we need to make it total war.

#9  I'd just as soon there aren't mass graves. Just DNA smears on slides

#8  Dismissing this as “nonsense”, Musharraf accused Karzai of being “totally oblivious of what is happening in his own country”.

Dumbass. He might believe himself, but noone else does.

As for the graves, the guy has a point. Show me the graves. Show me the pictures. Each time. These people should be stuck in mass graves because noone will claim them, right? Whining about how it violates a dead terrorists rights and it isn't civilized is crap and an excuse. Show me the graves. They should be visible on the sattelites if nothing else, but I want to see closer pictures. And those who the Taliban would seek recruits from should see these pictures, too.

#7  I'm a very strong supporter of ARCLIGHT. It was one mission that instilled "shock and awe" on anyone within 10 miles of the drop box - quite frequently permanent "shock and awe". ARCLIGHT Quetta, the Pakistan side of the Durand line, and downtown Peshawar, where Osama lives. Run a 30-ship strike through the heart of Karachi, and another one through Rawalpindi. Then divide what's left of the country between India and Afghanistan, along the Indus river. Let Pakistan become a distant and sour memory in the minds of the muzzie crapheads throughout the world. The only way to win in a religious war is to thoroughly crush your enemies. While it might not be a religious war on our side, it damned well is on the other side. We need to remember that.

#6  What are they gonna do? Recruit MORE Jihadis?

As you've already guessed, Frank, they're doing that already. I agree with you. It's time to get Medieval all over their Talib asses. Start whacking the shit out of the border territories. Perv declared Wazoo to be autonomous, so let's hold them accountable by doing some serious damage. What will they do? Demand that Perv intervene militarily when they've been screaming for self-determination? It's time to install some serious fear into these grinning fucks. Give them nowhere to run or hide.

#5  We could give all the goats syphilis.
That would bring them to their knees.

#4  true enuf, but I doubt they showed the rest of the R&R Taliban repair facilities, with the unanestheticized undergoing amputations, sepsis, lingering death, etc. Bet they aren't chuckling dilletantes there. Pak "instability" has been the overriding concern. It's apparent they are no ally, and are actually sheltering and rearming (if not actively directing...and I believe they are) Afghanistan's enemies of stability. Bomb the f*ckers to let them know theer's no safe harbor, and their ISI masters can't protect them, then see how the campaign goes. Pak can go f*ck themselves. What are they gonna do? Recruit MORE Jihadis?

#3  Frank G:

Disproportionate retaliation against terrorists, as implemented in post WW2 Philipines and Malaysia, is the only thing that has ever worked against guerilla tactics. I have no doubt that the Sunday Times accurately reported Taliban bravado. I lived through the Vietnam experience and the fact that fighting unwinnable wars is a recipe for catastrophe should have impacted on our leader's brains. Taliban cannot be beaten if the UN and the OIC continue to support 350,000 (to 2 million) Afghan refugees in Pakistan, while these support a terrorist movement to the point of harborage and recruitment.

NATO took up the obligation of regime change and nation building in Afghanistan because our leaders assumed that it was wanted and would work; nation destruction remains an option. And given the fact that passive sections of that country are producing the bulk of the world's opium harvest, maybe destruction is the solution.

#2  that border needs to be ignored by BOTH sides, then. Bomb the "laughing" little retreating fuckers and their home villages and their supply routes. Arclight time. Perv can go suck an egg or go on a permanent book tour. I bet all recuperating Talibs aren't laughing and having a great time.... PR that blows back on em
