| British soldier killed in Iraq |

| A British soldier was killed in an insurgent attack on an army base in southern Iraq, the ministry of defence said today. The soldier died as a result of fire on a coalition forces base in the city of Basra on yesterday. No other troops were injured in the incident. The family of the unnamed soldier from the 2nd Battalion, Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, have been informed. The death brings the number of British troops killed in Iraq since the March 2003 US-led invasion to 121. Britain has about 7200 soldiers based around Basra, Iraq's second city. Damned thin on the information side. |
