| 'Uranium' seized in Orissa; eight arrested |

| Berhampur: Eight persons were arrested and about one kg of material, which they claimed to be uranium, was seized from their possession in Orissa's Ganjam district, a senior police officer said on Saturday. The material and some amount of explosives were seized from six persons in Behrampur village on Thursday as they were about to transport them, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar told PTI. Two others were later nabbed from the same village. "We have no idea about the nature of material seized and sent it to the state forensic laboratory for examination. The arrested persons, however, claimed it was uranium," he said. The Chhatrapur beach in Ganjam district is known to contain rare earth materials - like illumenite, monanzite and menzite. |
