BARA: Five tribesmen were killed and three others were injured in armed clashes between two religious groups in the inaccessible Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency late on Monday night. According to reports from the area bordering Afghanistan, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI)-backed Ansarul Islam attacked a group of armed Lashkar-e-Islam supporters, killing four men. Lashkar-e-Islam retaliated and killed one Ansarul Islam activist in addition to injuring three others. Sources said the incident triggered more armed conflicts between supporters of both groups in Darpar, Donga and Landa Kass. Authorities reportedly moved a heavy constabulary of paramilitary troops to the adjoining mountains surrounding Bara to maintain law and order in the area under its control.
