Sri Lankan Rebels Claim Boat Destroyed |

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) - Tamil Tiger rebels destroyed a Sri Lanka navy boat in a battle near an eastern port killing eight sailors, a pro-rebel Web site reported said Tuesday. The battle erupted when rebels attacked a ship that was carrying more than 850 government soldiers from northern Jaffna peninsula a to the Trincomalee port in the east. Navy spokesman Commander D.K.P Dassanayake denied the report and said sailors destroyed three rebel attack boats. He said he was unaware of rebel casualties. |
