Indonesia to give 215 dollars to relatives of quake dead
2006-06-04
JAKARTA - The Indonesian government will give two million rupiah (215 dollars) to the families of each person who died in last weekÂ’s earthquake, the countryÂ’s disaster relief agency said on Saturday. Each survivor of the quake will be given 10 kilograms of rice per month plus a daily allowance of 3,000 rupiah, the National Disaster Relief Coordinating Board said in a statement. Each family who survived will also receive a one-off allowance of 100,000 rupiah to buy basic household utensils and another 100,000 rupiah to buy clothes.

#2  Quick calculation estimating final toll of 7,000 dead means dirty Indos will give US$1.5 million out in payments to the families of each person killed.

Well there certainly is change from that for the US$2.25 million donated by Australia.

#1  Oh the largess of the dirty Indo government!

I think there'll still be change from that A$3,000,000 Australia gave Jakarta immediately following the earthquake.

Not to mention the US and Australian teams that went in patching up the place and helping survivors, and other international aid.

I think Jakarta might make a profit out of the disaster after all they won't have even redistributed the aid Australia gave.
