| Zim Bob preaches racial tolerance - but labels Ian Smith "notorious?" |

| BLANTYRE — Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has called for bygones to be bygones between black and white in his country, saying that the two sides “had to live together”. The 82-year-old veteran, who officially opened a road named after him leading from the Malawian commercial capital of Blantyre to the tea-growing area of Malanje in the southeast, said this week that blacks and whites “cannot avoid each other”. The road, which ultimately links Malawi to Mozambique, used funds from the European Union (EU), which has put a travel ban on Mugabe. Both the EU and the US have imposed sanctions on Mugabe and his associates, saying that elections since 2000 have been marred by fraud and violence against the opposition. During a four-day state visit to the country Mugabe said: “We declared a policy of national reconciliation to push off colonialism much further”. “Many (whites) are left, including the notorious (former Rhodesian prime minister) Ian Smith,” Zimbabwe’s long-time leader said at a banquet in his honour in Malawi’s administrative capital, Lilongwe. | #1 Most Zims would give their eyeteeth and crawl a hundred miles on their knees if it would bring Ian Smith's government back--now. Back when it counted they wanted Bad Bob, and now they've got him. Smith warned them this would happen, as did many others, but they were "racist doomsayers." Well, the Zims didn't listen and they got what they wanted. Sympathy meter here pegged at zero. Enjoy! |
