A statement attributed to the leader of the ousted Taliban regime on Tuesday dismissed Afghanistanâs first parliament in 30 years as a US forgery and vowed the American âinvadersâ would be forced out. The parliament was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by US Vice President Dick Cheney.
âAmericans have a policy whenever they decide to carry out a military invasion of a country - they fake documents for their invasion,â said the statement read to AFP over the telephone by a purported Taliban spokesman. In Afghanistanâs case this included the âso-called governmentâ that was set up immediately after the Taliban regime was removed, according to the statement attributed to fugitive leader Mullah Mohammad Omar. âLater they make the symbolic so-called elections - they were forcing people to vote and register to vote, even to the point if someone did not register, they would consider him as an enemy,â it said. |
