Serial bomb blasts rock Delhi, 25 feared killed
2005-10-29
More than 25 were feared killed and six injured in bomb blasts which struck the bustling Paharganj and Sarojini Nagar areas of New Delhi on Saturday. The six injured people are admitted in Lady Hardinge Hospital near Paharganj and other government hospitals. The police do not rule out a terror attack.

The blast took place in the main market in Paharganj at around 5.38 pm, the fire brigade sources said. Five fire tenders have been rushed to the spot, they added. According to an eyewitness, women and children are also among those injured. The blast caused major commotion among the crowd even as several shops were damaged. The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined. However, police do not rule out a terror attack.

According to a private television channel, the two other explosions occurred at Gole Market and Govindpuri in South Delhi. A major fire has broken out in the market, and police have now closed the market. More details are awaited.

#15  raptor - Chicken, bro, and I have a unique guy-style recipe. Just open a bunch o' cans (the chicken can be boiled if you prefer fresh - it's just gotta be moist) and slap it together, lol. Messy to make, but great eats - and an all in one pan, dinner - like I said, it's guy-style.

As the Thais say, "im-lao" I'm stuffed, lol.

#7   Terror does Diwali shopping in Delhi--killing 55, hurting 155

Terror returned to the streets of Delhi on Saturday evening with three serial bomb blasts claiming at least 55 lives and injuring 150 at Sarojini Nagar, Paharganj and Govindpuri markets. The strikes at markets crammed with Diwali shoppers were clearly intended to dampen the festive spirit.

The three blasts took place within a span of 18 minutes - the first was at Paharganj market at 5.38 pm, the next at Govindpuri at 5.52 pm and the third at Sarojini Nagar at 5.56 pm. Another bomb in Khari Bauli (at Chandni Chowk) was defused at 3.30 pm by the police. The bombs were improvised explosive devices (IEDs) which have been used with deadly effect by militants in J&K.

The explosions caused panic-stricken shoppers to flee from the scene. The explosives were packed with shrapnel. Most the victims were women and children. Blood-soaked streets were littered with burnt bodies and sundered limbs.

Even normally conservative home ministry sources had by late night put the estimated toll at beyond 50.

Though there were reports of 10 arrests in connection with the blasts, police denied the rumours.

The needle of suspicion was swinging towards Lashkar-e-Taiba. This terror attack in Delhi comes after the May blasts in two city cinemas that were ascribed to Sikh militant group Babbar Khalsa. Prior to that there had been a lull since the Parliament attack in December 2001.

#6  "The police do not rule out a terror attack."

YJCMTSU. Hit any nurseries, dayschools, maternity wards, Cotillion classes, toddler birthday parties? Can't be a proper Lions of Islam™ attack unless there's absolutely no chance of self-defense by the targets, can it? I'm confused. :)

#5  ahhhh Lions of Islam™ strike so fearlessly again!

#4  Two save many from another blast

Casualties were averted in a bus in the Govindpuri area of south Delhi due to the alertness of passengers and the driver and the conductor who threw out the bag containing the explosives before it exploded.

The bus was travelling on the Outer Mudrika route when an unidentified man entered the bus from the Kalkaji Mandir stop.

Later a passenger saw an unclaimed bag under a seat and alerted the driver Kuldeep and the conductor Budh Prakash. The conductor had already noticed the person hurriedly getting off the bus. The driver stopped the bus, and on checking explosives were found inside it.

The driver and the conductor carried the bag outside the bus and threw it away which exploded immediately on landing.
