Chouf MP Akram Chehayeb blamed Lebanon's security system for a general deterioration in the country and urged the dismantlement of the lingering Syrian-Lebanese security network. "We need a security system built around a national Lebanese policy, an activation of coordination between units, and for the networks of the Syrian-Lebanese security system to be dismantled." Chehayeb was speaking following a ceremony in Qornayel Sunday organized by the Progressive Socialist Party to commemorate the General Financial Inspector Malek Ali Hilal who died one year ago. "We are seeing day by day how responsible this system is for the political, economic, security and national deterioration," Chehayeb added. "We have to think of Lebanon's future and rebuild the country. This requires maintaining the Taif Accord. We also have to hold on to Lebanon's Arab identity on the basis of an open humanitarian Arabism far from oppression and tutelage in both words and action. In addition to that we have to maintain national dialogue between everyone."| They're real big on that "Arab identity" thing, but it doesn't look like they've got a good handle on what it is.
