"Muslim Opinion" Be Damned
2005-09-08

#1  I see Muslim opinion as being a mile wide and an inch deep. Much like public opinion elsewhere. It changes radically with a day-to-day flux, and is based far more on "what do you feel?" than "what do you think?"

Every now and then, some wit conducts a survey, even of celebrities and politicians, that is utterly bogus: and the response is the same. That is, the question itself can be biased, or even neutral, but if the subject is unknown, the response will be knee-jerk.

"Do you approve of America's recent policy change towards the nation of Freedonia?", will actually draw a similar response from the same people as "Do you approve of America's recent policy change towards the nation of Iran?"

They rarely ask what the policy change is. They just blurt out their feelings, based on any key words they recognize.

So, when Muslims are polled about America, what are they inclined to blurt out with? But if you sit down with them in a thoughful discussion, unless they are emotionally invested for or against America, they probably will be as indifferent to our country as most Americans are to their country.

Most of them have never even met an American. They are more interested in their own lives than in someone else's.
