Al-Qaeda escapee recaptured?
2005-07-12
US-LED forces have recaptured one of four Arab al-Qaeda militants who escaped from the main US military detention centre in Afghanistan, an Afghan police officer said today. The officer, who did not want to be identified, said he had reports that the unidentified man was captured at a mosque in Bagram village, close to the US military base that houses the prison from where the four militants escaped early on Monday.
A spokesman for the US military said he had no information to confirm the report, but would check it.

Additional: One of four Arab Al Qaeda militants who escaped from the main US military detention centre in Afghanistan has been recaptured, a senior Afghan official says. The official says the man was found hiding in a mosque about two kilometres north-west of the giant US base at Bagram that houses the prison from which the militants escaped early on Monday. "He was found in the mosque at about 9.30," he said. "He was hiding there. The others are still at large." He says the unidentified Arab was recaptured unhurt in an operation involving the Afghan police Rapid Reaction Force and was handed over to US-led forces.

#5  Per the book I just finished, the Bagram base differed significantly when it was set up in that the deal with the local warlord required that the base be open to unescorted locals. Possibly that deal has now caused a problem - unless these guys were allowed to go to see whither they ran.

#1  Do you think we could take him out in the early morning hours to recover his weapons stash? And maybe run into his accomplices?
