Iraqi committee releases 280 detainees |

A government quartet committee released on Monday 280 Iraqi detainees who were suspected of terrorist activities. A statement by the Iraqi government said the quartet committee consists of interior ministry, human rights ministry, justice ministry and Multi-National Forces. It was founded to look into cases of Iraqi detainees. The statement further said the committee recommended to re-look into cases of 15,200 prisoners. Meanwhile, Iraqi security forces arrested today 15 gunmen and seized a large quantity of weapons and explosives in Baghdad and Heit, said a statement by the security forces. It added that the forces captured seven Egyptian gunmen and one of an Indian citizenship. Security forces in Heit also arrested leader of a terrorist network and other six members of the network, the statement said. A hideout was found north of Baghdad where security forces seized mortars and explosives. |
