A truck packed with Russian troops blew up in the restive Dagestan region of southern Russia on Friday, killing at least 10 troops and wounding seven, officials said. Rashid Isayev, the head of the criminal police for the province, said the blast happened as the military truck was traveling in the provincial capital, Makhachkala. He said the truck was packed with Interior Ministry troops. Dagestan, which borders the warring republic of Chechnya, has been plagued by rising violence blamed on insurgents and criminal gangs. |
