Afghan troops have captured 13 suspected Taliban insurgents, including a key militant commander, in a raid in the Zabul province, said Defence Ministry spokesman, General Mohammad Zahir Azimi on Tuesday. Azimi said that troops had captured the fighters, including a man identified as Mullah Abdul Bary, on Monday and handed them to the United States-led coalition forces. The arrests were made during raids in Deh Rawood and neighbouring Uruzgan's Charchino district. The spokesman said the raids were part of the US-Afghan Nam Dong II operation, launched last week against Taliban hideouts in south-central Afghanistan. As part of the same operation, two insurgents were killed in Deh Chopan after they attacked US troops patrolling the area, he said. |
