'Revenge' killing in S Thailand |
2004-11-09 |
A second Buddhist man has been beheaded in southern Thailand in apparent revenge for the deaths of 78 Muslims who died last month after a Police said notes were found by the rubber tapper's corpse, indicating that the man was killed in revenge for the deaths following the protest, which took place in the town of Takbai in Narathiwat. "This is trivial compared to the killings of the innocents at Takbai," a police officer quoted one of the notes as saying. The beheading is the second such killing in a week. The remains of a Buddhist village leader were found in Narathiwat province on 2 November. Earlier on Tuesday a Buddhist couple was killed by a gunman riding on a motorbike in nearby Yala province. Authorities say reprisal attacks by suspected Muslim militants have killed at least 20 state officials and Buddhist civilians since the Takbai protest. |
