| #3 Their research and analysis shows that earthquakes, coupled with shifts in the faults, often occurred at a time when the moon's gravity and earth's tides jointly helped such plates move. I worked for USGS in earthquake research in the early '70s and we realized that this could be a factor then. We measured the tilt of the earth at various places along the San Andreas fault in california and sent the real time data into Menlo Park. After factoring out earth tides, we looked at what was left. We figured that these tilts could be precursors to an earthquake or fault slip. |
